Eva Lechner takes silver in Chies d’Alpago

Sunday in Chies d’Alpago Eva Lechner earned a well-deserved European Championships silver medal. She finished the race second behind Jolanda Neff (Sui) while Blaža Klemenčič (Slo) finished third.

The course in Chies d’Alpago, somewhat modified compared to the one that hosted the 2006 European Championships, was demanding. It included a long climb that did not suit Eva well.

I started in the lead and then when Neff took the lead and made a gap I was stuck with the two Slovenians. I stayed with Blaža and on the last lap I attacked on the long climb before the feed zone. Then I tried to gain some ground on the downhill and on the flat part and I managed to surprise her. It was the right move; I made some 10 seconds and kept them to the finish line. As I learned in the relay the second part of the lap suited me better. Let’s say I had fun racing today.”.

In men’s race Fabian Giger finished in fourth place. Julien Absalon (Fra) won the title. Fabian could not be completely happy with the outcome but is satisfied with his performance, which proved great shape before the next World Cup races.
